PAINT BIGGER
On my crusade to paint bigger, slower, and more oily.
This beast ended up being somewhere around 80 hours of painting time, done over the course of a month.

I don't actually know if these took 100 hours, that's just a guess. But it's probably about right. Painting a Little Landscape in Oils
Переглядів 1,4 тис.Рік тому
I kinda hate doing small paintings. I have a very unsteady hand and struggle to get any details/control when I paint tiny. But sometimes for the sake of efficiency, it makes sense to make smaller paintings. So here we go. I tried to stay a bit loose and let the paint work for me rather than trying to control all of the details (because I knew I kinda... couldn't). Do you like doing small painti...
Figure Painting in Oils

I'm getting back into oil painting and wanted to try a figure study. It's far from perfect (omg painting faces so tiny is a nightmare), but it was a lot of fun. It's a refreshing change from digital art. One of my favorite MTG art of all time. I have been coming back to it and admiring it often, but this is the first time that I discovered this video. The workflow is amazing!!! Thank you for this and all your art, Noah!
Thankyou baby... this is everything that i was looking for ❤
I always come back to rewatch this classic video
Thanks! The sort of lessons that never get old. 💪
Hi! Thanks for the video, I just bought one, I would like to know if it comes with a protective film or not? Do you suggest in the case to apply one on it? Thank you
Fucking insane
Is art camp kinda like band camp😅
Thanks 🙏👍
what imgage scale do u use ?
I see AI like throwing paint on a canvas and then making an image from the abstract images you see in the paint. Sure, like anything if it gets misused and abused it can, and will destroy. Like a pen, I can use it for what it is for, or abused from it by throwing it at someones face.
thank you I love this
😮 I stumbled on your channel from a review - thank you for sharing some pro tips! ❄💙.
noah is a str8 SAVAGE
🤘
Hi Noah, how do you prepare the linen? looks raw , without any primer.
It's pre-primed with some sort of clear primer. So yeah, you get the raw look still but it's definitely primed.
Here's a comment to show support.
Much appreciated!
Keep going !! we support U :)
Thank you, really appreciate it!
I am gradually progressing towards larger artwork. So far, I've been successful with pieces up to about 12x12 inches. However, when I try to go beyond that size, I find it more challenging to achieve the desired outcome. I'm confident it will happen because there was a time when my ideal size was 6x8 inches.
You can do it! I find that once you're able to handle something like 16x20, then you can suddenly go quite a lot bigger and still be comfortable. That seems to be around the size where oils have a certain feel, and it's all very adaptable after that.
@@TeamBradley Thanks for the encouragement!
You have come a long way brother..ive been watching u for years man..u have come far from the first pieces ive seen until now…great job and motivation.
It's been a long journey, but I'm getting there. Thanks!
Taking it easy and slow is the best sure it takes so long but damn it feels so good when you are done and gave it your all
So hard to rush these things-so much to accomplish and so much ground to cover. Feels daunting if you think about the whole thing, but slowing down and just working on a little bit at a time, slowly, eventually gets you there. And yeah, looking back on it all is always super rewarding.
I WILL PAINT SMALL NOT BIG !!
FINE
MEDIUM GANG
I love these, I've watched "Painting a Giant, Epic, Awesome, Very Cool Oil Painting" several times and I would love more of these timelapses!
Thanks! They obviously take me a very, very long time, but I'm definitely planning on more big work like this!
Phenomenal video been looking for something that gives me a very basic drawing exercise. (This isn’t a diss it occurred to me while typing it might sound like one. But honestly just needed someone to give me art homework as I am self-taught) really liked your Art Camp 1 video as well. The link in the description to get the high res Charles Barque drawings no longer works.
been following you since the beginning. keep "rocking" on man.
Thanks for being along for the ride, appreciate it!
how do you know when to stop?
1. very tired of working on it 2. none of the changes I was making were substantially improving the piece 3. it looks like I wanted it to That's pretty much it, but it's a weird thing every time.
the rock man strikes again
I FUCKING LOVE ROCKS
Really refreshing to see so much work from you that isn’t fantasy. I love the fantasy stuff too but just love the variety. Also sir what are you doing to build that gorilla back? 💪
Thanks! I love fantasy but it's nice to branch out and try some new stuff. Deadlifts + rows + shrugs all day every day
The result is gorgeous!
Thank you!
It must be superscary and refreshing at the same time!
Definitely intimidating to start on this-but damn glad I was able to pull it off. Once I got going it was just a blast to work on. Can't wait for the next one.
This is amazing! Any books you would recommend for learning landscape painting?
I'm writing one right now! So that one, once it's done. Aside from that, the best one is probably this old one, Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting: amzn.to/3J6naAE
awesome!!
Thanks!
Awesome! I imagine the bamboo stick is for resting your hand while using the brush?
Yep! My new mahl stick. I still need to fix it up a bit to make it better, but it serves. Planning on adding some sort of sticky/rubbery coating to the top so it's less prone to slipping. Also needs a few more passes of sanding/oiling to feel a bit better.
@@TeamBradley what about some sort of eyelet or hook on the wall, beside the painting that the stick can clip to? Should be a lot more steady that way? 🤔
@@allanbellemare1949 Yeah! Thought of that too. Ideally I'd like some sort of semi-permanent one on a track above the painting. I've made/used one that fit on my old drawing board. Need to replicate that for this wall.
Beast mode 💪
NOAH BEASTLY
Go on mate, bang in that water a fish, a salmon half of body leaping from river. Give it a focal point but also a story 😉 great painting and process.
Haha, maybe next time

Can we use macbook air m2 trackpad to move cursor on kamvas pro 24 4k?
I don't see why not
God, Rachel is like so wise sometimes... She really makes some good points about human nature, especially when it comes to something as creatively fulfilling as art.
very helpful thanks
Would be cool to see an updated video on this. I definitely appreciate these types of videos that cut through the BS of "what is art" and simply incorporate it as a tool. From what I've seen, incredible talent like yours + quick idea iteration yield some of the absolute best results.
Thanks, I really should! It's wild how much things have changed
Are Kamvas Pro 24 (4K) fans noisy? I own Cintiq Pro 24 and it's very noisy, so I was wondering how they compare.
Nah not at all
The only times I felt this video is boring are when you said it can be boring to some people. Other than that, you’ve changed lives of so many with this video. Be sure about that. People calling this video boring don’t understand the meaning of the word ‘fundamental’. Thank you so much for helping confused people like me all around the world who want to learn visual art, that too completely free of cost. ❤️
Thank you so, so much! 🙏
Holy shit, that looks awesome, only knew your digital paintings so far.
Thanks! Getting more and more into oils lately, back to more paintings like this one. Should be fun. :)
you have improved so much since following you! keep it up!
Thanks, much appreciated! Just want to keep getting better.
The thing about getting a review copy is not about you being super biased, it's about you not having the pressure of having spent a dime on the product. So you may innately and subconsciously diminish some criticisms.
If this broke today I would immediately order another one.
@@TeamBradley Based.
This was a very down to earth and clearly honest review, comprehensive, too! Thank you for taking the time to share. Great job! You're a one take master!
Haha, thanks! I don't know how to be a personality or make snappy, youtube-y content, so I just try to be me and talk to people. :)
Thank you so much for this 9 minutes of work!!!!!!! Your this one video was enough for me to make my decision Alhamdulilahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
Awesome, hope you love it!
